So I've found a new favorite song, or rather rediscovered an old favorite--Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt. The Nine Inch Nails did it reasonably well, very decent in the chorus and completely creepy in the verse. It's a reminder that sometimes covers are better than the originals. N.B. Hendrix's cover of All Along the Watchtower, Cake covering I Will Survive and several other notables I can't remember. But like most sequels, for every good one, there are innumerable terrible ones.
I did my good turn for today.
My next week gets decided tomorrow.
This is my dream guitar--with the proper finish, of course. Hopefully, I'll be able to pick one up off of eBay at a "relatively" affordable price at some point in my life. It's a Jackson SL2H with the stylish and ever-so-chic snakeskin finish to match my pants. The dual humbuckers kick ass--as I hope you too would if you ever caught me in snakeskin pants.
It's a pretty piece of machinery and an even better tool. Sigh.
The new Metallica track sucks. "Metallica finally found a way to stop people from downloading their music--by writing shite tracks" was what I heard on the radio yesterday.
As for my life, I'll try to share some writings in the coming days, but there are no promises there--the hours are too long. In the meantime, it's been a very long time since I read a good book. Please feel free to recommend anything to me before I reread yet another Umberto Eco book (love them, but a change of pace, might broaden my mind a bit).
Oh, and they said the stupidest thing on the radio, defining Finch as emo/punk. Regardless of who Finch is, the idea that emo and punk can be fused is RIDICULOUS. I'm so upset that I'm going to RockBottom, maybe.
But before I sign off, a few very random quotes from Spin's List Issue:
"Kevlar bandanna" #3 on the Our Wish List For Eminem's New Clothing Line
"Forget the telly/We just go to the crib/And watch a movie/In the Jacuzzi/Smoke L's while you do me" #1 on Five Lyrics that Don't Work as Pickup Lines, courtesy of Biggie
"The Chronic is the best hip-hop album of 2002" #10 of Ten Things Believed Only by Stoners
"His own blood" #4 of Top four things iggy pop has rolled around in onstage
"Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" #1 of Five Michael Jackson Songs that forever redeem him no matter what crazy stuff he does next
"The Harvard campus depicted in the movie is actually UCLA, where there are a lot of white girls with big asses" #4 of Top Ten Things We Learned From the Method Man/Redman Commentary Track on the How High DVD
