I started distance-running, recently. The idea is to train for and run in the 2006 NYC Marathon. It's interesting to see how quickly my body adapts and reacts to the pressure that I put on it. At this point I'm running 3-5 times per week. Distances vary from 1-9 miles and I've been at it for about a month. I'm really enjoying it, despite the cold. It's bringing back memories of the Charles River and the pain of running alongside that ghastly, Stygian body. It's a lot nicer finding my own pace and enjoying some of the surroundings I grew up in. My favorite runs thusfar have been to my elementary school, the Throggs Neck Bridge, and along a path my father, brother and I used to bike. As the distance grows, I'll be able to find more and more creative paths. It's actually a lot of fun. The key is to keep myself motivated for the next 3 months though--or else it will all be for naught. Speaking of which, Adidas has these crazy sneakers that adapt to your running style. My brother told me about them and my dad said Consumer Reports did a write-up on them. They're not amazing yet, but we're not far from the point where sneakers like that will be the standard. It's mind-exploding. Soon we'll be cyborgs. Awesome.

Also, read Beasts of No Nation by Uzo(dinma) Iweala--it's the story of a child-soldier in Africa. And go see The States at Arlene's Grocery on December 7th at 7 PM--it's Previn's Birthday Bash and they're premiering a new track. So buy the book and CD and give them to all your closest friends for Christmas. You can find them on Amazon and iTunes respectively.

Oh, I also found out why there was a PSA up instead of an ad--so now, I'm going to randomly insert "lingerie" throughout my blog again, and see how long it takes to get an ad up from something totally lingerie appropriate.
