I'm blogging to entertain you. It's totally selfless. Trust me.
Or maybe I'm just taking an opportunity to capture a bizarrely voyeuristic audience of webcrawlers who dig me in diabolical ways or have bizarre fetishes that I qualify for.
Either way, we're both here. So let's not do anything too crazy. I have a life to return to on a different day with a different name.
Junk Food: I find I eat it only when it's around. Much like soda, I never have a distinct craving for it. But when it's there you'd think I was an ant at a picnic. Thanks to my sister's recent birthday party (and the goodie bags that are inevitably conjoined), I have resampled such greats as: Tootsie Roll Pops, JawBreakers, Lemonheads, and Crunch bars to name a few. Doritos, Ruffles and Pringles also reared their ugly heads. Beverages like 7-Up (as in, "Make 7, Up Yours"), Sunkist, Barq's surfaced as if not to be outdone by their nonliquid counterparts.
Suddenly, brushing twice a day doesn't even seem to cut it.
Anyway, drink Brahma. It's this Brazilian lager that's just hitting the US. It's lighter than Heinken and smoother than Corona--I like it. Very drinkable, very enjoyable, hot bottle, could do with an easier to spot label, but it's very solid, so go for it the next time you're out.
Also, am actually reading Uzo's book. Tore through half of it in like an hour and a half. Very intense. EXTREMELY intense. Thank you for writing about it and acknowledging those who have suffered. Beasts of No Nation--get it.
Other than that, I've been socially AWOL for about a month. I'm working like a maniac. Things are super busy but moving.
I'm going to have to sacrifice part of my personal space in a couple of weeks and I'm strangely looking forward to it.
On a deeper personal note, what makes people able to kill in American society? Is it that they don't have enough? Uzo treats how a child can be desensitized to killing (or traumatized into killing) very thoroughly--but in a land where we have so much, how can we justify crimes of hate and rage, attacks on individuals for being a certain way or wearing a certain uniform or being innocent children....it's such a blatant disregard for life, an ugly manifestation of egotism and self-centeredness, a narcissism unaware of others. Are these people crazy? Probably not. That's the worst part. They're just ungrateful, hurt, cynical, mean, nasty, proud people who don't value the beauty of life.
It's really awful.
Way more awful than the fact that most of America will spend tomorrow watching their TVs for a football game they don't care about (except for the money they put in their office pool) or just to watch the commercials. But don't get me wrong....that's pretty awful too.
